    Comments, Additional Information, References

Adam Pease was born in the town of Groton, Cayuga county, N. Y., in 1808. His parents, John A. and Hannah Pease, were born and married in New Jersey; They removed in 1799 to Cayuga county, N. Y., where they raised a family of two boys and six girls. In the spring of 1817 they emigrated into the wilderness that then covered the town of Somerset. Here the pioneer died in August, 1848, having survived his wife some years. Adam Pease is now the only survivor of the large family to which he belonged. He has lived in Somerset sixty one years. When twenty years old he bought of his father the farm on which he now lives. The log house and barn then on the place have, under Mr. Pease's management, given way to a good cobblestone house, fronted with lake stone of the first grade and finished in the most substantial manner, with out buildings to correspond. The farm is stocked with a plenty and variety of fruit. Mr. Pease's sister Polly was his housekeeper for nine years, during the last three of which he made six rather unpleasant journeys to New Jersey to settle up his father's affairs in that State. He never mourned over this business, however, for it made him acquainted with Margaret Patten, whom he married November 6th, 1836, and removed to his wilderness home. Six daughters and two sons have been born to them. Their daughter Permilla, died at the age of one year and three months; all the others are living. Mrs. Pease died August 19th, 1871. To his oldest son, William H. H., Mr. Pease has sold his farm, after making certain reserves.

William Henry Harrison Pease was born in Somerset, December 24th, 1841. He was married March 13th, 1872, to Lucy Richmond, of Mount Morris, Livingston county, N. Y. Mr. Pease is one of the wide-awake, enterprising farmers of the town. Post-office, Barker's.
